In 2011 she received the mentor of the year award from the American Organization of Nurse Executives. Dr. Spitzer received the Tennessee Hospital Association’s CEO Meritorious Service Award in 2002, and she later received the Pfizer Award for her exceptional contributions to healthcare. In May 2005, she received the Presidential Distinguished Service Medal from Meharry Medical College for her service to the community.
